Our Slippery Snake room is a physical play room for the pre-school aged children. There is a variety of physical activity for the pre-school children and we have a variety of Gymkids equipment. This is children’s fitness equipment, specifically designed for nursery aged children. The products do not enhance muscle development, but with adult supervision, it encourages children to enjoy fitness and take part in regular exercise. It makes exercise fun, and helps create healthy habits to last a lifetime.
We have the following items in our Slippery Snake room:
• Infant Treadmill
This is non-motorised, and the movement is created by the child. The belt moves at the child’s own speed. There is a display showing the time, distance travelled and energy used.
• Infant Bike
This is a fun bike with a padded and adjustable seat. This also has a display showing the time, distance travelled, and energy used.
We have a stunning sensory room, located on the ground floor of our nursery, for all ages of children to access and use.
Just some of the equipment in the sensory room is:
• A large, interactive bubble tube with seating area to lie or sit down next to the tube.There are 5 switches, and the children can change the colour of the bubbles, and switch the bubble flow on and off. There is a large mirror in the corner behind the bubble tube, to enhance the effects.
• We have a Galaxy Projector which fills the room with thousands of dots of light which slowly rotate to produce a stunning image of the night sky
• We have a mirage projector to provide moving images around the room, such as under the sea scenes, in the jungle, and many more. The staff can create their own pictures too on a blank disc to go with a particular area of interest at the time such as the Bear Hunt, to project images to go around the room.
• We have a pin spot and colour wheel to produce lots of images of coloured light around the room.
• A pin spot and a mirror ball projects colour around the room, creating a myriad of coloured dots.
• There are also fibre optic, side glow threads. These enable the children to handle the twinkling lights, which are constantly changing.
• The children also have hopscotch to play with. It has 64 different nursery rhymes and familiar songs and sound effects for them to enjoy. Each time a coloured square on the Hopscotch is pressed, a corresponding colour square illuminates on the wall panel and a musical note or tune is played.
All our staff here at the nursery have had training day, to enable everyone to use the facilities properly and get the best use out of the room with the children.
The Jungle Room is a multi-purpose room. It is not only used for Indoor Play for all ages of the children in the nursery, but also for our group music lessons provided by Joe Jingles, and our group dance lessons.
The Jungle Room, between the hours of 12pm and 2.30pm, is also used as a sleep room for the older children. This enables a peaceful, supervised sleep room, and the children who do not sleep are not restricted to particular areas of a room, they are able to continue their free play.
Activities in the Jungle Room could include Tents and Tunnel Play, Heuristic Play, Group Activities, Parachute Play, and much more.
We have a secure outdoor provision area for the children at the nursery, which has soft and safe rubber flooring. We also have a grassy area, which will have a fruit and vegetable garden to enable the children to grow their own fruit and vegetables, and for use in our daily cooking.
The outdoor area has a retractable awning over the area to enable the children to access the outdoors in all weathers.
The children all use the outdoor area on a rotary basis, and the staff plan activities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage, on a weekly basis.
We have a range of outdoor equipment such as trikes, scooters, a playhouse, tunnels, tents, exploration and investigation equipment, dolls and prams, a parachute for games, and much more.
